From Corporate Girlie to Author: My Escape Plan

I never expected to find myself writing explicit stuff. At 25, I was deep in the corporate world—polished, professional, playing the game. My days were filled with client meetings, KPI revisions, and the silent dread of spending another decade talking about “growth opportunities” while my own dreams sat on the back burner.
Then, I burned out. Saved some money. Quit.
The thought of applying for another corporate role made my skin crawl. I needed an out. And so, in the most unexpected pivot of my life, I started writing erotica.
Not because I had always dreamed of it. Not because I was an expert. But because I was bored, restless, and craving a world where I wasn’t bound by “core competencies” or corporate jargon.
I wrote my first short story on a whim—something darkly funny, a little twisted. For the first time in years, work felt fun. So I kept going. One story became ten. Ten became an audience. Before I knew it, I had an entire book’s worth of mischief.
I won’t pretend it was an instant success. I didn’t wake up rich. But for the first time, I was building something that was mine—no bosses, no KPIs, just words and imagination.
Fast forward three years, and 28-year-old me is still here, still writing, still chasing that freedom. The side hustle is inching toward a main hustle, and I’m diving into new genres—because why stop at erotica when there’s an entire world of chaos to explore? My next book will be my unsolicited take on modern dating, apps, and all the drama I endured. Maybe I’ll succeed, maybe I won’t. But at least I won’t spend another decade pretending that corporate life is the only path to success.
So, if you’re stuck in a job that drains you, here’s my advice: Write the story you actually want to tell. Whether it’s erotica, satire, or a deeply inappropriate take on office politics—just start. You might just find your escape route.
Welcome to Roks on the Rocks. No filters. No fluff. Just the good stuff. (Yeah, the rhyme made me cringe too, but here we are.)
